BIO
Lin Gardiner
I’m a music producer, recording & mix engineer and sound designer who has worked in the music industry, video game industry and audio post for film and television for over 2 decades.
I started as an engineer in London, England where I recorded and mixed many records on Neve and SSL consoles, and achieved several UK chart placements. In the early 2000’s I emigrated to Vancouver, Canada and quickly realized that as major labels and publishers were on the other side of the country (or south of the border!) I had to grow and be nimble to survive. This resulted in me branching out into production and songwriting and working with a wealth of independent talent here on the beautiful West Coast.
As a songwriter, I’ve notched up over 200 co-writes, which have resulted in publishing deals, film and TV placements as well as radio and club plays. I have an eclectic and flexible approach to music writing and production, which has given me the opportunity to develop a repertoire of polished material from Folk and Pop, to R&B and Hip Hop, to Dance and Electronica. My consistent thread is my ability to bring the best out of the artists I work with, always remaining true to the vision of any project.
I also provide audio services to the video game industry, having worked on over 20 published titles, ranging from mobile and casual to AAA titles, including work for industry giants Electronic Arts, Sega, Disney and Capcom. My work in games began with dialogue services, from recording, editing and mastering to talent casting and voice direction. I have also provided sound effects design and implementation, with many years focusing on music direction, music system design and implementation. More recently, I have shifted into an Audio Director role, overseeing the whole audio vision and leading a team of talented sound designers.
The studio environment is where I feel most at home, whether making creative things happen or chilling out at the end of a long session. I’m lucky enough to have worked at many top facilities in the UK, US and Canada and am happy to take on a project anywhere. My own studio is based on the stunning Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, where my fully equipped production room, The Sound Garden Retreat, features quality mics, pre’s & channel strips (SSL, Universal Audio, Avalon, Neumann), a Mac Pro running Logic Pro, Pro Tools & Reaper and several hardware synths, all centered around Focal monitoring and a Neve 5060 Centrepiece.
